The phone is sending the audio to the car via Bluetooth.Ĭar Thing connected to phone via Bluetooth (for the Car Thing to control the Spotify mobile app) The Spotify app on your phone is loading the songs and doing all the main playback. The Car Thing doesn't have an internet connection or speaker. I can also have maps on my phone at the same time as Car Thing does music. With Car Thing screen always on and ready with voice activation and preset buttons, I don't have to mess with my phone. Also, if you want maps and music at the same time then good luck with that. I don't want my phone always unlocked and draining battery or getting OLED screen burn in. Even though I also have my phone mounted and charged, it locks and then you have to unlock it. The main comments I see against this device are "just use your phone" but the problem is that your phone isn't always on and easy to use while driving. It makes it so you don't have to touch your phone while driving and instead can mount and use the Car Thing which has an always on screen and easy to use buttons. ![]() It might still be useful even if you have that new stuff though. Car Thing is mainly made for older cars that don't have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
